Many Microsoft menus (Task Scheduler is a good example; Explorer is another), open too squeezed to read. So I spend time enlarging the columns and making the format useful for me. All of that disappears when you exit the program. About a third of the programs I use do not retain format. Many other software programs DO retain the format of any page on which you are allowed to change the format. So obviously it is not a big deal to include the code. How to get all software people to do it is the big question.

Is there anything I can do to keep formatting intact?

You mean the windows open up too small?

Have you tried dragging the windows open?

Yes, I've dragged the windows open. I had to or I wouldn't be able to read most of the columns. The problem is that this format change doesn't stick. The next time I open the window, it is minimized again. Not just a problem with Microsoft programs. A number of other software programs have this deficiency. The fact that so many other programs DO keep the formatting makes me think it is simple software code that some coders neglect to include. What do you think is the reason, James?

I've had temporary problems somewhat similar to yours, but it was mainly with Windows Explorer.

One thing I've learned about Windows 7, is that whenever you drag open a window, make sure that it doesn't touch the task bar in any way or the window may not remember the last size setting. Seems like I remember reading a tutorial / user comment confirming as much, but I can't locate it at the moment.

See if this can be of some help...

Try toggling full screen by pressing [F11].

Something else you can try is to drag each edge out where you want it, then hold down the [Ctrl] key while clicking the [X] in the top right corner of the window.

Some of these suggestions work for a time, but they are hit and miss. I still find that formatting of columns doesn't stick in a number of programs. I found a 3rd party replacement for Windows Explorer that does everything Explorer should do, including retaining formatting. I am going to use it exclusively instead of Win Explorer.
