    Running Win XP SP1.

On bootup today, my "My Computer" folder decided to open without my asking. Figured it was a glitch and rebooted. Same problem. Window opened again. Nothing in msconfig or Startup Cop indicates these are set to open on bootup.

    Any suggestions?

Try system restore first. Most likely it'll fix the problem and save you a bunch of headaches trying to track it down.

Do a file find for explorer.exe and if there are any found anywhere else other than in *:\windows folder, rename or delete it[them].

Exception being any explorer.exe that is a backup, such as the one that may be i386 dll cache folder. Use your common sense but if in doubt, "ask ".

NOTE*If you do find another explorer.exe, especially in the "* Drive" Root, Virus/Trojan scan is recommended, immediately.

This has also been known to happen when a startup path or run line has a typo that has a misplaced space in the path between the letter and the rest of the path such as:

    Run C: \Program Files\messenger\blahblah.
Note the space between the C: and the rest of the line.

Why don't we start off with something simple to see if we can pin this bugger down. Before trying something like Taskinfo2000 or hijackthis, how about Startup Control Panel:

    http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml

It may reveal a startup command line that "just shouldn't be "!
