    I just upgraded to IE7 from IE6.

It used to be that if I rotated the mouse wheel to enlarge the font (eg on cnn.com), the expanded page moved down slightly vertically and still maintained the fixed width of the monitor (eg No slider bar appears).

When I do the same thing in IE7 the page expands to the right and part of it overhangs the right and I have to use the slider bar to see the whole thing.

Is there some setting in IE7 that will allow me to adjust IE7 like I had in IE6?

    thanks

Not that I am aware of - there is the zoom facility in the lower right hand corner, but this still requires a side srcoll to see the whole page.

May be that web pages written for IE 6 behave differently in IE 7

    Pete,

I've read that there is a settings in IE7 for "Page Overflow ". How does that work and could it be involved in my right margin problem?

Any idea where you read it? - Google only comes up with hits relating to the writing of the web page.

    Steve,

Thanks but the Zoom setting in the bottom right is the same as my rolling my mouse center wheel. Anything larger than 100% has a bottom slider, but that didn't happen in IE6.

    Pete,

I'll look for the site on Page Overflow but I scanned lots of sites. I'll post here if I can find it.

And going smaller then 100% make the scroll bar go away doesn't it?

Isn't there a difference between changing the font size and zooming in or out? I don't have IE7 installed but in IE6 there is View > Font size > five settings but there is no zoom function. What about IE7? Can you change the font size as opposed to zoom in or out?

    Christer

Edited: On my system, changing the font size in IE6 doesn't change a thing when viewing WindowsBBS!

    Christer,

I think you may of hit on a possible solution to my problem.

IE6 does indeed have the same settings as IE7 and I now realize there IS a difference between FONT size and ZOOM.

When I use View > Text size, any setting beyond Medium (eg Larger, Largest) does indeed increase the size like I want but w/o the scroll bar, unlike Zoom. You're right that Text size doesn't work on WindowsBBS and some other sites whereas Zoom works on them all.

It seems like I'm between a rock and a hard plate: Text size/no scroll bar only sometimes works vs Zoom with a scroll bar. Maybe I'll just go back to IE6 since all the "new" features are pretty worthless to me vs the old IE6 zoom feature.

    Rob

PS: Steve, yes going smaller than 100% eliminates the scroll bar.

PPS: I just confirmed that my backup cpu which still has IE6 on it, does indeed Zoom using the mouse wheel with NO scroll bar. Gawddddddd help us!

    Steve,
thanks but that changes the Font Size, it doesn't zoom in/out. It doesn't work on WindowsBBS but on e.g. WindowsSecrets.

    Rob,
I lean towards a confusion of commands when it comes to IE7. IE6 doesn't have a zoom function (right?), only changing Font Size as opposed to IE7 which has both.

I have a Logitech LX700 cordless mouse (Logitech uses its own software drivers). I'm still a little hazy whether the center wheel is a Zoom or Text Size. All I know is that in IE6 it magnifies with No slider and in IE7 it magnifies With a slider.

FWIW, I dug thru my misc downloads and found EasyRead which does exactly what I want in IE7. It puts a big "+" or "-" on your IE toolbar and acts as a "screen multiplier" exactly like I had in IE6 (no scrollbar). It works pretty slick eg:

    Christer,

You're right that as far as I know, IE6 doesn't have a Zoom whereas IE7 does. Thus resulting in my experiencing the problem when I upgraded to IE7.

Now that I understand the problem better, I'll contact Logitech tomorrow and see if they have a way around this with a newer driver.

    Rob,
my hardware (keyboard and mouse bundled) is Logitech Cordless Express. It doesn't even have a number but it was cheap ... :p ... !

IE7 messed up at least one of my programs, Acrobat Distiller 5, which I use frequently. AD5 is no longer supported by Adobe and it obviously didn't fall on Microsoft to fix it. In addition to that, when I had the "Favorites Pane" set to "fixed ", it kept expanding towards the right and I had to readjust it again and again. I went back to IE6 ... ... and haven't missed the problems for a minute.

Keep us posted on the deveopment. It would be refreshing if the response from Logitech should be "yes Sir, right away Sir" but I doubt it.

If the few times I've called Logitech in the past they have been very helpful.

This time, they said that the features that their mouse provides are basically just MS built in features that they link to. Therefore, since IE7 now has the Zoom feature they have no way to restore the IE6 feature that I got used to.
