Why does IE7 change my custom icons back to orig?

    I just switched to IE7 from IE6.

When I override a default icon on a desktop shortcut by applying a custom icon the new icon appears on the desktop as it should.

But the next time I go to that particular web site, the icon changes back to the sites default icon per the original shortcut I created.

This never happened in IE6. How can I get my particular icon selection to stay permanently?

I think what is happening is that in IE 7 the favicon for the site is used as the icon for the URL in Favourites and also as the default icon in Desktop shortcuts. That is certainly the case with WindowsBBS.

Deleting the favicon from the Temp Internet files will resolve the problem - until you revisit that particular site.

However there may be a workaround to this - if you set your desktop icon to the custom icon you want, right click on it > Properties and set to Read only that may do the trick.

Be interested to hear if that works :)

    PeteC,

Setting properties to Read Only seems to do the trick.

    Much thanks,

    Rob
