   What can cause music files to play fine on my old computer but when I play them on my new high performance XP-Pro they "skip" a split second every minute or two.
   
   The same thing happens when I play songs from Pandora.com which are fine on old but skip on new.
   
   No other programs are open.
   
   What can cause this?

   One guess-> Some application in the background in interferring. Do you have an email app open that checcks for new mail every two minutes? If so - close it and see what happens.
