Why an emoticon in the middle of a word?

    ?

I probably made a mistake, and I get a weird emoticon in front of the op part, in another thread. I don't see edit as an option, any longer.
My quote should have been actually pop.isp.net. Let's see if something weird turns out.
Well copying the weird item from the original, does not show here.
I had disabled smilies in text, and the check mark is gone!

Why is this, should be:emonicon created

Sorry, your link does explain what I saw. If this was correct,
    would have created an emoticon.

I found out that the title of an e-mail cannot be changed by simply going to edit.
    One has click on
    after having clicked on Edit.
Obvious to some, but not to me.
