This is my second time downloading and burning an ISO, and I get the same message after the install starts with the "Decompressing files... "

Blah blah, can't continue.. blah blah corrupt files.. blah blah.. Error number 0x80070017

I can't waste my life downloading & burning (and wasting) DVDs for my whole life. I thought the TCP protocol provided for a checksum field, so the transmission is not corrupt, but I seem to be burning corrupt disks left and right. Is there something I'm missing? I'd really like to see Windows7 someday... Can I buy a known-good DVD copy from somewhere?

OP here: Can someone post an MD5 hash of the ISO file? (assuming that all the ISOs are the same...)

    IF you'll Google-> 0x80070017

You'll find all sorts of things like slowing down the burn speed and trying a different brand or type of DVD. Instead of DVD -r try a -rw.

OP here -- I'm using Roxio Creator DE, version 9.0.116, build 901B16J, DL2

When I've burned my DVDs (or audio CDs for that matter), I'm a fan of lowering the burn-speed to gain integrity. All the disks that I've burned for Windows7, were all done at 2x actually. The software didn't seem to allow 1x for DVD writing.

I have two DVD burners at my disposal; the one in my Dell laptop, and the aftermarket Sony that's in my Dell PC. I guess I can try different burning software. When I have 75 out of a pack of 100 DVD -r left, I wonder what the wife will say, when I tell her I have go to buy more :)

I had a lot of problems (incomplete, coasters, etc.) I did not get it done properly until I downloaded the .iso using IE. No way were they going to give it to me by way of Firefox.

So right from MS using IE worked fine.

I've got the 32-bit version, and the MD5 sum for the file I have, versus the one Arie posted, are exactly identical. This means that my .iso couldn't possibly be corrupted.

Now I just have to try different DVD media. I can't burn any slower than 2x...

If you can't burn you could also try mounting it using virtual CD software.

I'll try burning, using iso-burner, which I downloaded. I did burn a copy with that SW, but on a different DVD burner a few days ago; the target install laptop wouldn't read that disk to save its life. (that was a Sony DVD-writer). The other drive I can burnr with is a TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-L632D

If ISO Burner doesn't work for you, you might try DVD Decrypter.

I just got a DVD +R from a co-worker, and used iso-burner from ntfs.com to burn it. I'll post my (hopeful) success when I get home from work. All previous attempts were DVD -R

So, this one is "different-media ", and "different burning software"

    We'll see...

I hope this goes well for you...*Fingers Crossed* :)

Just as an FYI...I used ImgBurn and DVD-R without issue on 2 separate ISO (one for home and one for work). Installed both using MS VM.

    Eureka!

I used the DVD +R, the TSSTCorp drive, and iso-burner, and I made it!

I noticed something interesting. Ever notice how, when accessing a CD, the RPMs usually spin up to a really high level? When I was using the DVD -R, I noticed that the disk never spun higher that a fairly low, constant level. When I installed last nite with the DVD +R, I noticed that the first part of the install went MUCH faster, and the disk was spinning at that really fast RPM.

Apparently, if I ever want to burn *data* onto a DVD, it's better to use +R? I've had great success with video, on DVD -R.

I don't have a DVD burner and I didn't want to ask someone to waste a disc, I extracted contents of the .ISO with 7-Zip and started the installer inside XP. If I had burned it at 4x for data integrity, it would hav eliterally taken hours. The install also probably went faster off a hard disk than off an DVD.

I down loaded the 32 bit version twice and the 64 bit version once from Microsoft. Used 4 x burn with each DVD failing at various points in the expanding file section. Downloaded from a non-microsoft site and burned at 4x with no problem. As a XP pro user there are some features in 7 I like. Havin g the shutdown process options together is a clear advantage. However, the problem I am having is the OS dropping the router connection after about 5 minutes on line. Ocurrs with Firefox and IE, more so with IE. Ha anyone else had the disconnect issue?
