    Hello-

I have two older computers here, I need to know which one will perform better. They both have XP freshly installed. One has more memory, but the other [I believe] has a faster processor.

    Here's the info on one:
    Intel Pentium III Processor
731 MHz, 128 MB of RAM

    And the other:
    Intel Celeron Processor
467 MHz, 192 MB of RAM

Both will be used primarily for high-speed internet browsing, so which would be the best for this purpose?

    Thanks-
    Jason

Sound2TheBay--Both are low in RAM for running WinXP efficiently.
Are they both available to you for using? Why not run each for a week or two and see if you prefer one over the other? (Or neither.)
For net surfing, I would not expect much difference.
Your statements are correct about memory and processor speed.
For not too much money, you should be able to increase the 128RAM to 256MB, which might give you the best of both worlds. You would need some advice whether there is any limit on doing that, but if feasible, it takes only a few minutes.

Yes, the RAM will need to be increased. The 466Mhz model will be a PII and will probably have PC100 RAM (originally). The PIII model probably has PC133 RAM. The RAM may be labelled with the PC rating. Anyway, you could probably take a stick or two out of the 466 and put it into the 733 (PIII) machine to bring it up to 256Mb of RAM. PC100 and PC133 RAM can be inter-changed, PC100 is a little slower (EDIT: still a whole lot faster than "high speed" internet). The 466 may well have some PC133 RAM if the RAM has been upgraded in the past. If you can only make the PIII's RAM up to 192Mb it should run well if you do not open a lot of applications (or have a lot running in the background).
If you increase the PIII's RAM and decrease the PII's RAM, it may be better to run the PII on a "smaller" OS like Win 98, Win ME or Win 2000.

Get the motherboard manual/user guide for each machine. Also check for the latest chipset drivers. Do a search at www.intel.com for "identify" to help you find the motherboard model (unless something like Everest in my signature, can identify them).
