I'm using 6.2 and a friend wants to re-install hers (using 4.7). The general opinion seems to be that 4.7 is more stable .... well, according to Ramona anyway ;)

The latest 4.7x version seems to be 4.78. Is that the best of the series? The last one I used was 4.74 so not up to date with it. Also, is a full install recommended?

4.79 is actually the latest version. I use 4.78 and have found it to be pretty good. I would recommend that you try it. As far as what to download, full/custom, that is pretty much up to you. I used the full download and unchecked some of the optional things (can't remember which ones though).

    Hi Dr. JB,

Here I go recommending 4.79 again. Certainly wait for other opinions, and also read the 4.79 Release Notes

As Mike suggested, the features you might select/deselect are a personal choice. Install the updated version, using the "Custom" install, in order to deselect unwanted components, i.e., RealPlayer, WinAmp, Beatnik Stub plug-in, etc. It's much better to install the Players separately, if you want them.

    NOTE:
This is a user's choice, and no set rules to follow. My personal preferences, when deselecting, are:

    RealPlayer
    WinAmp
    Address Book Palm Sync
    Beatnik Stub Plug-in

I also delete the FullSoft/Talkback Agent files:
    fullsoft.dll . . Or . . rename to: fullsoft.bad
    talkback.exe
    talkback.hlp
    talkback.cnt
These files are used to report your errors to Netscape. However, they seem to create more havoc than the intended cure!

All this information is covered on my Clean Install page.

    Recommended download sites:
    ftp://ftp.netscape.com/pub/communicator/english/
    http://sillydog.org/narchive/

    Cheers!

    Ramona :D
