    Hello all!

I´m considering buying a second harddrive.

My current installation, which was made by the company who custom built my system, has the following setup:

    Primary Master = HDD
    Secondary Master = CD-R/RW
    Secondary Slave = DVD

This makes sense, since I use the second controller to read when I use the first controller to write to the HDD and the first to read and the second to write to the CD-R/RW.

However, I suspect that adding the new HDD as the Primary Slave isn´t the best solution, especially if I want to use it for the pagefile too.

    Does this setup make sense:

Primary Master = New 80 GB HDD
    Primary Slave = DVD
Secondary Master = Old 40 GB HDD
    Secondary Slave = CD-R/RW

    Thanks for Your time,
    Christer

    Yes, that does make sense!

Although I have heard that some (older?) CD-RW's may give you trouble as Slave... Don't know if that (still) holds true.

    Arie,
    thanks for Your reply!

Does it matter if the 40 GB HDD is connected as Primary or Slave?

The CD-R/RW is 2½ years old.

    Regards,
    Christer

    If anyone else is wondering:

On another forum ...... ...... I received a comment on having both the CD-R/RW and the DVD as slave, which is not wise, since it would not be possible to boot from any of them.

This would make the below a better option:

Primary Master = New 80 GB HDD
    Primary Slave = DVD
    Secondary Master = CD-R/RW
Secondary Slave = Old 40 GB HDD

    This would -

    enable the system to boot from the CD-R/RW;

enable Norton Ghost to create and restore Images quicker due to simultaneous reading/writing and

provide independent reading from and writing to a pagefile on the HDD on the second controller.
