    Hi all

    apologies in advance, I know I've seen this in a thread somewhere but didn't have any luck searching... :eek:

    ==

    assuming that an install of Windows98 has been made by copying the Win98 folder from CD to somewhere on the HDD first:

    after it's "up and running ", can get rid of the CABs... but there are a few CAB files which it can be handy to hang on to in case the setup needs to get tweaked later on - some with the Network-type stuff in, a few others also

    which ones, please?

    TIA & best wishes, HJ.

    If you have a the 98 cd you could get rid of them all. But, unless you're desperate for drive space, I'd leave em alone.

    I would leave all of them.

    Hi HJ,

    I would also leave them. For a minimal install, I do a "Custom Installation" and be very choosey about which items to include. Any additional ones can be added later.
    In case you don't know, if you uncheck the internet service providers option they are still installed anyway. They are in a folder under Windows.

    Hi all

    thanks for the replies, & greetings from the "disasters-R-us" "B" machine...

    was going to try to explain all but ended up writing a book :(

    disaster stage 1 - disaster stage 2 (result of doing a scandskw)

    moral - don't create a subfolder called desktop under My Documents, even by accident (restoring from QIC set)

    back to the rebuild. Am keeping all the CABS - the two optical drives showing are next in line for servicing, they don't work reliably at the moment.

    best wishes, HJ.

    Hugh Jarss--Do not forget the files you need to run Scanreg /restore are .cab files.
