My Win7 PC connects to a Netgear router (WGR614v9) that I occasionally use for WiFi access. I can't find it in Device Manager or anywhere else on my computer. How would I update software or firmware, or uninstall it, if I can't find it?

My brother has a Gateway router, and he sees it in Device Mgr. Weird???

Strange that the router WOULD show up in Device Manager being as it is not a part of your system per say. You don't have any software installed unless it is being used as a wireless router. Generally no upgrades are needed.

You get to your router thru the net connection by entering something like 192.168.1.2 in the address bar of your browser. Check your documentation for the exact address. It will open up an entirely different menu.

Word to the wise - look all you want, but don't touch!! If you are asked 'do you want to save this...?' Say NO!!

Type 192.168.0.1 into the Address Bar of IE - this will give you access to the Router.

Gateway does not make routers, they make computers. His computer may have network adapter(s) that show up in Device Manager, but the router won't be listed there as a device.

FYI, the networking term "gateway" means:

A residential gateway is a home networking device, used as a gateway to connect devices in the home to the Internet or other WAN (Wide Area Network). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Residential_gateway
