When I try to download a file with a version number, such as MySpreadsheet 1.2.3.xls windows XP Pro automatically modifies the name to:

    MySpreadsheet 1[1].2.3.xls

Can anyone tell me how to get windows to not freak out when dealing with multiple exensions?

    Thanks

ps - I can not rename all the files with this type as it is a contract requirement to have the version number in the file name, with the "." in it.

    Hi,

    Welcome to WindowsBBS.

Empty your browsers TIF files. When IE adds a (1) to the file name, this normally means that the file name is a duplicate to a file already in its cache.

It could also be that IE sees MySpreadsheet 1.2.3.xls having the same name as MySpreadsheet 1.2.4.xls, in that case I doubt you can do anything about it, but maybe an IE expert knows a workaround.
