whenever i try to log on to a specific website, a dialog prompts showing

something like "ie went into trouble, it needs to be shut down. "

all the pages will shut down when i confirm that dialog.

I used another browser, and the log on to the website was ok.

so can anyone tell me what the problem is?

    thanks pal.

    Hi lbfatcat,

IE needs to be repaired. I think you just went thru a virus infection removal process, and that took something out.

    Try sfc first:

Start > Run > cmd sfc /scannow and have your XP install disc handy. There is a space between sfc and /

sfc - system file checker, retrieves the correct version of the file from %Systemroot%\System32\Dllcache or the Windows installation source files, and then replaces the incorrect file.

If you want to see what was replaced, right click My Computer > manage, expand event viewer > system

    If that doesn't solve it:

Can't repair IE seperately in XP as one could in 9X. So have to repair the OS.

Put your XP install cd-rom into the disc. If auto play enabled, the install process will begin, if not, double click on the drive.

What you should do is SKIP the first repair option (no "R" press) and just continue with your installation. After you accept the license by pressing F8, setup searches for existing installations of Windows. By following the onscreen instructions and pressing "R" at this point, your current installation will be repaired.

Depending how old your XP is, you might have to reinstall SP1 - meaning if you installed SP1, then it's old.

If you've installed SP2, that will have to be re-installed, you can skip installation of SP1.

    Regars - Charles
