Anyone know what's better (excluding storage size) between the Seagate ST375033AS and ST3500320AS?
    Primarily speed, and reliability.
I've read mixed reviews. Heat and noise seem to be about the same.
And I realise that WD makes a better drive for the $, but this is a warranty replacement, so I'm stuck w/ Seagate.
After having 2 of their drives fail w/ in a year, I'm really cautious.

Put the model numbers into a websearch and see if people are having problems with them. Add the term "review" and you should find some speed test results.

I might wonder why the drives seem to keep failing. I've purchased many Seagates for people in the last few years and they are all running flawlessly. I have three and couldn't be happier with them.

Do you have plenty of RAM in your machine? If there is not enough RAM, the system will start utilising "Virtual" memory, which is pagefile on the HDD. When a program cannot be loaded into RAM, it gets "farmed out" to pagefile on the HDD.

Watch the HDD activity LED. If it is running a "lot ", you may have what is termed "thrashing" of the HDD...do a websearch for it. You can look in Task Manager and watch the memory readouts.

Is the system cooled adequately? The drives can get overheated.

Are there "over-zealous" checking programs like Antivirus or Antispyware that are constantly checking files on the drive?

    Just some thoughts.

Oddly the search led to this page!
    Nothing else was relevant.

    4GB RAM

I think I'd be aware if this was happening.
    At least I HOPE I would! :D

    It's a 3 fan system.
The box is in a compartment in my desk - open on rear side, so I'd think it's getting the necessary air.
I do run it almost constantly. Always read that's easier on the HD.

No antispyware, and I use AVAST antivirus.
