Are there any that you don't like?

Hi SarahB. For the best free antivirus programs, I would have to go with Microsoft Security Essentials or Avast. I've been using MSE for years and have never had issues with malware getting onto my system.

For the paid products, I heard Kaspersky and F-Secure are pretty good if you want to go that route. You should stay away from Norton and MacAfee though.
The products that I listed above both free and paid are probably the best that are out there right now. But you should keep in mind that having a layered approach to security will give your computer the best protection from security threats rather than just relying on one program to protect your system. Using Spyware Blaster and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware doesn't hurt either.

Regarding firewalls, the Windows Firewall will be enough for your system. Also, using your own brain and having good common sense when you are browsing on the Internet is a good thing to have.

Let me add Web of Trust, File Hippo, and Secunia PSI to that list.

Web of Trust has bailed me out more than one time.

I probably should have said I already have Norton Internet Security 2013, Superantispyware, Trusteer and WOT.

But I also have a very slow system and think a review for next year when my Norton expires is well overdue.

I don't mind paying for good software. I would rather avoid AVG.

I've used Vipre Internet Security Suite from the days when it was Sunbelt and have had no issues with past and present builds - latest version even has automatic software updater included (for all software on PC, e.g. Flash), so no need for Secunia, etc.

Also run WOT and scan with Malwarebytes (free) every 10 days or so.
