I have a friend with this computer and he wants it to go faster. I told him to buy a new one, but I was curious as to what speed the one he has is. There is no name or model number.
Properties of My Computer show this:
    "x86 Family 6 Model 8 Stepping 6 "
Do you know what this is??

Download Everest and look under Motherboard > CPU for details.

Bear in mind that you can only fit another processor of the same socket type, e.g. Socket A, etc and only if the motherboard will accept a faster processor - may need a bios update. Check out CPU compatability at the mobo manufacturer's web site.

Your friend may well achieve his goal by adding more RAM.

Why not post CPU, mobo, installed RAM and OS details here and we can advise.

    Family Code 06
    Model Number 08
    Pentium III processor, model 8
Pentium III Xeon processor, model 8
    Intel Celeron processor, model 8

    Note(7)

    7. To differentiate between the Pentium III processor, model 8 and the
Pentium III Xeon processor, model 8, software should check the Brand ID
values through executing CPUID instruction with EAX = 1.
