this is a Exstended thread to http://windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=29631

1st off all ports that you close off with a route " d-link " " cisco " and so on, be more direct with the question, incoming ports, anything you are not using, like 8080 is remote desktop, allot of viruses like blaster look for the exploit that use remote desktop, if you have IIS win 2000 or better check all your ftp/http and so on if your not running services like a web site, shut them all down, I have every port and I mean everything shut down, and i can send recieve email and function just fine.

I use to crack, when I first got online, between tiny firewall and my router, I cant break into my system, and if someone does, they will find my nice unix system that will give them a treat....

I suggest shutting every port down and nit picking what ports to re open if you need them open.

    just my opinion. :D

If you have every port, inbound and out bound, TCP & UDP, closed/locked, then you cannot do email, web browsing, downloads, and other internet things.
