    Primary TV is streaming capable. During baseball season I want to stream Hi-Def games while my wife is streaming movies thru a Roku connected to our second TV. Now thinking about going to internet phone service. What would limit or stutter the streaming? Is it a function of download speed ( we have a 20 Mbps connection ) or the router? The phone service would be ethernet cable connected to the back of our modem. If the router is limiting us what should I look for in a new router. We presently have a Belkin F7d3302 v1. Thanks for your help, Jack

    Streaming is limited by the bandwidth you are paying for. 20mbps is plenty for streaming 2 shows at the same time. If you have cable Internet, afaik, the digital telephone service utilizes a separate channel for the service and so won't interfere. Cable services also use a separate modem for the phone.

    we have a 20 Mbps connection

    That is what you are paying for. That is the MAX. No place will they guarantee that speed all the time or at any time. You must be on Cable. The more people on the leg you are on, the slower the speeds are going to be.

    OK, you are joking right? Or talking about the 'backwaters' of the USA...

    In the rest of the world many have much better speeds then that. Have a look at http://www.akamai.com/stateoftheinternet/ or http://www.akamai.com/html/about/press/releases/2012/press_080912.html

    Average connection speeds in top tier countries:

    • South Korea (15.7 Mbps)
    • Japan (10.9 Mbps)
    • Hong Kong (9.3 Mbps)
    • the Netherlands (8.8 Mbps)
    • Latvia (8.8 Mbps)
    For the US that number was 6.7 Mbps (12th position world wide)

    Peak connection speeds:

    • Hong Kong (49.3 Mbps)
    • South Korea (47.8)
    • Japan (39.5 Mbps)
    • Romania (38.8 Mbps)
    • Latvia (33.5 Mbps)

    @Arie

    I think Mr Bill means that the MAX is the bandwidth one is paying for, not the max available and that there are other tiers of bandwidth for subscribers.

    @MR Bill

    Some cable companies, such as COX, use what's referred to as "burst technology ". The bandwidth is near unlimited for the first few seconds of download and then tapers off to the subscription rate.

    The US is far behind the rest of the world re bandwidth. We are getting ripped off by the ISPs.

    I don't need all your speeds. Read what he has and what I said. He is at 20 and that is what he is paying for. They will not guarantee that you will get that speed at anytime. NOBODY WILL. I could care less about some of these other 3rd world countries and what they have.
