I'm using a Dell laptop right now but I want to buy a new one. Please help me sort out the best. Can you give your laptop brand and tell me if it's worth buying?

Hi felicityblue. The main brands for laptops are Dell, HP, Toshiba, Asus, MSI and Acer. What is your budget for a replacement laptop? Also what size screen are you looking for? Those brands aren't better or worse than each other, it all depends on what you are using the computer for and the specs are what is most important.

I bought my Toshiba at a 40% discount. As you understand, it wasn't the "latest and hottest" but the "generation" before the "latest and hottest" was released. So, what is it worth to have the "latest and hottest"? Remember that it will last for a very short time ... ... until the next "generation" is released!

Hi felicityblue, Laptops these days are like cellphones. You get a unit you like and 6months down the track it's been surpassed by a newer model with more bells and whistles.
You need to determine how much money you want spend on your purchase first. All the makes mentioned by Evan (plus IBM/Lenovo) run from around $700 to $5000 or more.
Do you need it for a work tool or just casual usage?

This type is favoured by many in University scenarios because of it's versatility.
My own unit is a HP 1000-1333TU Notebook which does all I need for casual use and for when there is a power outage.
