    Hello All,

    I can no longer use Adobe Acrobat or Acrobat Reader. It tells me that ToolHelp32.dll is missing. I believe this is a Windows issue because I can only find reference to ToolHelp32 on Microsofts website. Its all way to advanced stuff for me. Nowhere can I find info on reinstalling ToolHelp32.dll. Everytime I run a check of my system (98SE) it tells me everything is ok.

    Does anyone know what ToolHelp32.dll is? How can I restore it.

    Thanks,

    BuckyBall

    Hi BuckyBall

    TOOLHELP.DLL is indeed part of Windows98SE, it should be on your machine in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM

    You may (probably) have a backup copy of the file in C:\WINDOWS\SYSBCKUP; alternatively you can replace the file from a Windows98SE CDROM

    ==

    To replace from C:\WINDOWS\SYSBCKUP -

    Use Windows Explorer, navigate yourself to C:\WINDOWS\SYSBCKUP, scroll down the list of files, see if TOOLHELP.DLL is there

    If you can find it, right-click on the file and choose "Copy "...

    ...navigate to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM, right-click on a blank area of the folder and choose "Paste "...

    ...then reboot your computer

    ==

    To replace from a Windows98SE CDROM -

    Use Windows Explorer to look in the folder "Win98" on the CD for the file
    WIN98_42.CAB, right-click on this file, choose "View "...

    look for the file TOOLHELP.DLL in the list you get, and when you find it, right-click and choose "Extract "...

    a dialogue box allows you to browse for the folder you want to extract to, select C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM...

    and extract it again into C:\WINDOWS\SYSBCKUP for good measure (assuming of course that you couldn't find a copy in that folder first off)

    ...reboot your computer when you are done

    ==

    I hope that nails it one way or the other - when I experimented it looked like more than just Acrobat would hit problems if that file was absent, I got an alert like this attempting to boot without the file...

    let us know how yo get on, pls?

    best wishes, HJ
