Sorry for such a basic question, but I can't find the answer anywhere. What is the purpose of the "phone" jack on the back of my dialup modem? I always plug the telephone line into the "line" jack and everything works fine. I've never used the "phone" jack but always wondered what it was for. My modem came installed in my Dell computer so there are no manuals or other information that I can find that might answer my question. Thanks for any response.

The phone socket (jack) is for a phone - an alternative to using a splitter at the main phone socket. You may plug a phone in there - assumes dialup, not broadband.
