User goes to device manager and uninstalls a piece of hardware. Then user has windows find the hardware with out rebooting.

User goes to device manager and uninstalls a piece of hardware. Then user
reboots Windows and lets Windows detect the hardware.

Is there any differance in this process ?

    Thanks

When you uninstall drivers in Device Manager, they are still loaded in Windows, they won't be unloaded until you reboot. Most, not all, of the time when you uninstaller a driver it will say "...do you want to reboot now? ". I reboot even if it does not ask.

When you reboot, if you cannot direct the Add New Hardware wizard to the driver files, for example, you need to run a driver installer program, click Cancel and run the program when you reach the desktop (otherwise you might disable the hardware or install the wrong drivers).
