I have a Sound Blaster PCI128 and a Hercules Muse XL.
I have not tried the Muse....Yet
But I was wondering will the Muse be better than the Sound Blaster ( It's about 4 years old)

    All Replies Appreciated.

What is the best sound card ?

That is a very loaded question.

Which one might be best for me and MY Machine may not even work properly in yours.

Some of the newer cards will not even install properly with a CPU less than 133mhz. ( I got one ) It was LOUSEY before. But it is fine now that I have it on a K6 2/500.

And maybe of more importance. Does the card have DRIVERS that will work properly with YOUR system and/or YOUR OS.

I have a SB16 ( ISA ) on one machine. An SBAWE32 ( ISA ) in another. And an Ensoniq ( SB PCI ) in this one. And not one problem with any of them.

I find that the speakers make more of a difference in the quality of the sound than the card itself.

Yeah, capdjq, that was my first thought too but it doesn't answer his question.

Lammy, there's only one way to find out - give the Muse a try.

    Hi lammy,

Including what's already been said, how do you plan to use it? If you're an audiophile w/ a well trained ear ( certainly not me) that's one thing. If you're looking for good gaming audio and decent MP3 that's something else. And as BillyBob said, the speakers really do make a tremendous difference.
