WinPatrol detected a new program not previously installed on my computer attempting to add itself to computer startup: C:\WINDOWS\system32\kdkpt.exe

WinPatrol notes that no description, company name, nor copyright information is included. The WinPatrol alert is repeatedly appearing.

Should I allow kdkpt.exe to be added to startup? If not, how do I get rid of it?
    Thank you, Russ

Response, check up on info required.

I would like to help you find out what that file exactly is, so that the other users of this site may better assist you. However, looking up that file name, and various alternative forms of it, (just in case you misspelled it), showed no results.

Could you manually look up the file it self in your computer? As well as run a scan, whether thorough, or specifically, to find that file. Please state what you use to implement the scan, and a summary of your findings, (details are usually asked upon request around here).

All the best, see you when you get back to check on this.

Oh, and you should know, that the look up of just "kdkpt" comes up with 61 total findings on google.com, 82 on msn, and 25 on yahoo. That is what I found, I'll look through some of them, but I advise you to do the same thing with your search as well.

Russ - Welcome to the Board :)

Anything which does not show up in Google is bad news - is this the correct spelling - kdkpt.exe ?

Read this and post the logs requested in your next post in this thread - spread over 2 posts if necessary .

    Thank you gentlemen.

kdkpt is correct; see the attached Decker scan. However, I was not able to find the program using My Computer to review the contents of system32.

    Hi Russ :)

Download ComboFix by sUBs from here, saving the file to your desktop.

Please disable realtime protection applications as they sometimes interfere with the tool. Check this link for your applicable programs.

    • Close all open programs and windows
    • Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
    • It may reboot your computer and resume running when you logon. Wait for it to complete. When finished, it will open a log for you. Post that log in your next reply.
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

I would also like for you to download and install HijackThis, scan and save a logfile, then post it here as well.
