I have installed a new 2nd hard drive with lots of stoarge space.

If I want "My Documents" or any file stored on the 2nd Hard Drive and yet I want to access it from the Main C Drive, is this what is meant by ReMapping?

If not, how do I do this anyway?

I have so many program files in my C drive out of which I'd like to move half to the New Drive. How do I go about doing this also?

    Appreciate the help

    Re Mapping

Remapping is a term for networks, when a computer logs on to a network, it "Maps" the network drive, it records the address of the hard drive on the network so you can view it, so unless your hooked up to a network Mapping will do nothing...
As far as transfering programs to your second drive the only way i have done it is by uninstalling and reinstalling on the new hard drive, if you just move the folders the links won't match up and the software won't work... my suggestion is to just move your personal files ie music, pictures docs and so on... this will be alot easier. hope i could help...

ok, So is there no way to have the programs on the new drive and then have a ghost icon on the C drive which I can click which will open the application from the New Drive?

    Hope that makes sense

If you uninstall the programs and reinstall on the new drive you won't see any difference as far as the icons and programs menu are concerned, it will look the same, it's what you don't see that will change, the links to the programs...

As far as moving your My Documents folder just right click on My Documents and go to properties. You'll see a button that says Move and you can set it up where ever you want. The folder itself doesn't move just the links to it so you would still have to move all of your files to the new location.

I agree with baumann22, I would only move files not programs. In fact some programs won't install anywhere but the c: drive, there are fewer and fewer programs like that but there are still a few.

I have 2 HDD's myself, the first is partitioned in 2 parts, I have about 9 Gig for the OS and programs, the rest of the first drive is for documents and the second HDD is also partitioned with music in one, videos in another and pictures in another.

Not quite. (re)mapping refers to network drives. That is, if you have 2 or more computers connected, you can create a drive and map it to a shared resource on another computer. This is usually done in a corporate environment. What you are referring to is folder redirection.

You can not mmove programs, you must uninstall them then reinstall to the drive you want them on. When you install, READ THE PROMPTS CAREFULLY, usually in the first one or two screens, you are asked where you want to install to. Simply change the C:\ to read D:\ .
