What is Event Viewer Telling Me ?

Just to see what was happening I Cleaned out both Applications and System Folder in Event Viewer.

Restarted Windows.

Checked Event Viewer again.

In the System folder there were !4 Items with the
Top one having a time of -----08:24.55 AM
Bottom one having a time of --08:20:35 AM
-------------------------------------------
Difference of-----------------04:20

Now, is this confirming my suspicions that it takes APP 5 minutes for Windows XP PRO to get fully booted and ready to go ?

Also could this time be increased or decreased by contolling what loads at boot up ? I say ( think ) YES. But deffinetly not sure.

I also believe that attempting to do anything within the app 5 Minutes could cause problems.

I have had SEVERAL ARGUMENTS with a Neighbor about this. He INSISTED on the fact that once the desktop showed up the the machine was ready to go. He would not even watch the Disk Activity light and wait til it stopped blinking. He ( I ) lucked out once. A SR fixed it. He has tried to be more careful since.

That is the reason I dug a bit deeper into things. I got in a HURRY a while back and tried to get online too quickly. I wound up REBOOTING.

That along with ASKING for help and/or other ideas.

And that is also the reason I ( usually ) hit the start button as I go by to get my morning coffee. What my fingers are not near I can't touch.

When doing further investigation I find that there is better than two minutes between the next to the top and top entires.

Top-----8:24:55
Next----8:22:17
----------------
Diff--------2:38

This then ( I believe ) explains why I have noticed the disk Activity light going out and then a few minutes later it blinks again.

So unless other ideas come up I believe I can saftely & honestly say " I think it is a good idea to leave the PC alone during this time. "

Gee I feel absolutely pleased with my performance now.
First 8:46:54
Last 8:47:50
Under one minute.

Looking through, I can't find any over one minute; in fact it is often as low as 45 sec.
(Even my application log is fast 8:46:55 to 8:47:20)
And I run Norton Internet Security and have 36 processes loaded at startup.


The disk activity going out, then comming on a few minutes later means that it is prefetching everything it thinks it will need, then waiting till that stage in loading the hive files (and appropriate startup entries and services) finishes and it begins the next step.

How much RAM do you have?
I remember you cleaned your prefetch, how long ago was that?
Has your prefetch folder been repopulated ?

I WILL NOT get into comparing anyone else's machine SPEED to mine. That would be absolutlely STUPID of me.

And to anyone that even THINKS about that I say " FORGET IT. "

Because as you and I ( and others ) very well know that there are MANY VARIABLES that have and effect. Maybe both Hard and Software wise.

I just wanted to know if I was understanding the thing correctly.

Looking again at Event Viewer I see that since 08:24 there have been several entries.

Under Source some are Service Control Manager and some are some are SRSERVICE

Catgory = None. Event=various numbers. Such as 35, 114, 115, 7035 and 7036.

The very top one reads 2:46:37PM -W32Time-Event =35

User on all from bottom to top reads N/A. Comp on all=Bob.

Again I am just looking for more understanding of what is happening.

PS.
I just happen to think that the 02:46 time may have be very close to the time when my Screen Saver kicked in.
