In my time working in the tech support department, I have worked through a lot of problems, but this one really gets me scratching my head.

Earlier today, I get a call from someone in accounting telling me that while her laptop is loading windows (I am assuming while the bios is checking for a boot drive) the computer is giving her an error, she says it is a "EXF text failure," and to "check her media cable;" the computer then loads normally.

As I have never heard of a EXF text failure, I started searching google to see if there is any hope there... None.

Does anyone know what this is and how to fix it...

The only thing I can think of is that it is not a EXF but a PXE text failure... and she just gave me the wrong information.

    Thanks for the help,
    Jason

My guess is it is an Exception, which is similar to an Interupt. Likely one of the programs loading at boot fails to do something it was coded to do, possibly spyware or malware.

If a PXE error then the user may have the bios config'd to boot from the network enabled.

As this is before it even selects a boot partition to load from, wouldn't that mean that it was a problem with the BIOS ROM... and if it is spyware or malware (never heard of it digging in THAT deep), how would you remove it short of flashing the BIOS.... :scratches head:

OK, if this is a message from tghe bios then correct, it is not spyware or any other app on the drive. I'd check the MB manufacturer site for post messages.
