    Hi:

I'm really upset with Microsoft. We have Automatic Update active and now
Windows Update has updated the Windows Media Player to :

Oops, there is no way to tell what version player we now have.
At a point in time all one had to do was click help and then click about and
    you got version info.

Oh well, that's not too important - what is really important is we don't like the latest Media Player - period.

(Oh yes, same with Real Player - we been trying to install version 8 - it says we are, but the final installation is 10 - and it's not working too well)

So, how does one reinstall an earlier version of Windows Media player (same
for Real Player) and make the programs stay put and not be updated ?

Naturally, you can't ask questions at the head shed ! So, here we are
    asking if anyone else knows.

    Thanks

    Hi jbarker,

Version for WMP: \Program files\Windows Media Player\ - right click on wmplayer.exe > version tab.

The link is to WMP troubleshooting and look around for instructions on reverting to an earlier version under Installing the Player.

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/mp10/faq.aspx#2_3

Real Player can't help you with other than you can probably find version the same way.

    Regards - Charles
