I have a seat of XP Media Center on DVD from an old dead computer.

I am wondering what Media Center has which vanilla XP Home does not. Are not some of the components a little dated by now, replaced by other sites and services, rendering them obsolete?

That said, is there any way to opt not to install the extra Media Center features, thus streamlining it as a bare bones XP install? After all, what I want it for is as a dual boot on a partition where W7 will be the main OS

If the XP DVD has Dell or HP written on it, you probably can't use it on a "non" Dell or HP computer....

You should google XP Media Center to learn about it.. You can't Not install it... But you can avoid using it.

Just looking in. Does the DVD allow you to Browse the DVD?

XP shows that and could you select/deselect Windows Programs you don't want?
    Cheers Neil.

Yes, it's quite easy to browse the DVD. I was just curious not just which programs are included but what other components are part of it.

It was largely curiosity as much as anything else.

Yes, the link includes some good info, just, as always, takes some rifling through to get at the good stuff.
