yea, i would say that too. Win95 is too old, win98 crashes too much, and winME.. well, dont get me started...
Win98SE seems like the sweet spot in thw Win9x era. Before i go making lots of threads, where do you think i could ask the same question for the NT kernal? Thanks.

    Best Win 9 OS

The two standards in windows seem to be Windows 98 Second Edition and XP

Windows 95 when you look at it ( although a major step in its day) lacks much driver support - especially for newer hardware
It is amazing on how little it can run on - hard drive space and ram
As well although later versions had usb support - they really did not

Windows 98 initially was just a minoir upgrade on windows 95. However a second version with a lot more driver support was released (Windows 98 Second Edition or SE).
I used to think that a upgraded Windows 98 (If it does not say SE it is the original- fairly rare). with the updates from Microsoft is the same as SE.
Not so there is a major upgrade in driver support. Much hardware base requirment in os is win 98 se.

    from the internet

Windows 98 was the successor to Windows 95, released in 1998 (as per the name). Windows 98 Second Edition (Windows 98 SE), was released a year later with a number of fixes. According to the article at Wikipedia, the changes included the addition of Internet Explorer 5, Internet Connection Sharing, Netmeeting 3, DVD playback, and many fixes for minor issues. As of this writing, 98SE is still officially a supported product, thanks to popular demand.

Window ME ( Mellenium Edition) was the next step.
It could be called Bill Gates revenge on the world.
Very unstable . Froze all the time. It has been said that Bill Gates had a number of multimedia plans which are built into ME. ( many are hidden).
Some people will swear that ME is the best for almost all laptops even slower ones. Best driver base. Every time I have put me on a laptop it was problems.
Interestingly enough many people ( especially older) will swear to you that they have Windows 2000 on their computer . It turns out that it is ME. This is a reasonable easy to understand mistake.

ME did have a redeeeming feature- it introduced "System Restore ". It also provided a ready market for customers who wanted to jump ship for Windows XP.

yea, win98SE was one of the high points of computer histroy, lol. winME was just a joke. it was like win95, hacked, then has a new interface. is winXP, or win2k more stable? cuz isnt winXP have win9x code, and NT? and Win2k just has NT code right? so does that make win2k better? also, where can i post the same questions about the NT era? i dont want to post it in all of the NT forums, as i will prolly be banned. But, if i just post it in say, winXP, people will just say winXP, same with if i post it in win2k or vista. Thanks for your time! :D

We don't usually concern ourself with useless discussions of what's better & why. We support people having problems, and have no time for these futile discussions.
