What do we know about Torpark?

According to this article (see below) it is an FF based browser for surfing anonymously.

35 Things Every PC User Should Know
    By Christopher Null, PC World

    http://tech.msn.com/howto/article.aspx?cp-documentid=2897086

    On the second page:

    http://tech.msn.com/howto/article.aspx?cp-documentid=2897086&page=2

Surf Anonymously (about half way down the page), second paragraph reads:

Today there's a better solution, and it's free: the Torpark browser (http://www.torrify.com/). Torpark is a Firefox-based browser designed to access the Tor network of encrypted proxies. When you use the Torpark browser, your Web session bounces through multiple secure proxies, encrypted all the way, until your request reaches its destination. Torpark is a quick download and doesn't require a formal install on your PC; just launch the executable when you need it and make sure the Tor Network icon is active when the browser starts.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

Not that I feel I need an anonymous browser but I saw this article and wondered about it.

I had never heard of it, but if the correct name is placed in a Search, it brings up a lot of link. One which I thought iinformative was this

I too can search the web, which I did. I also ran a search of this site too.

Now I asked what we know about it.

So, Westside, if you don't know anything then please do not reply!

    Doug,
I replied for two reasons. First of all you mispelled the browser in the title, although the links were ok. I did the Search before reading the text of your post. I thought that the link I gave was informative. If you only want input from someone who has used Torpark, I would expect that you say so, and would have not bothered with a reply. It was not obvious from your post.
    And, please, let's stop here.

Ok. I got curious enough to get it. It took about half hour for my registration to CNET to go through, and three attempts to download v.2.0.0.3 failed completely. I got errors at almost every step of the way. I finally was able to download v.1.5.0.7. There is no real installation. Pretty much like working from an unzipped file. I have been typing up this reply, and went for a coffee refill, and it had not loaded the entire page with all the icons. It is, painfully, slow, but it is all part of the program. It is configured, and it has Adblock. The Theme is downright awful. I just can't read what is on the toolbars. Each toolbar is black with all the letters in light yellow. However, when anything is highlighted, the letters turn white. It imported my settings from Seamonkey1.1.1. I has a built-in Mail link in Tools. All Private Data is deleted by default, but that is customizable.
Note: there are two Themes. One is Firefox's, the other is Torpark's which I bad mouthed. I, sort of, like it, but it would help if more visible.
Forget it if you have dialup. It is slow enough with cable.
Basically, I may try, again to get v.2.0.0.3, and will test it on request. It is, definitely, not for everyone. And, most likely will not work with sites which require popups. But, again, it is customizable.
I hope I have given enough info.
Forget it. I was able to update it v.1.5.0.11, via Check Updates. It took about 10 min. to download, and then install, or whatever it does. Then, it would not connect. I am done with it!

Should anyone care, I was able to download and unpack 2.0.03 which is at the "a" stage. While 1.5.0.11 is, understandably, slow, but it minds its business, 2.0.0.3a is not so. May be, because I have Firefox2.0.0.3. It takes its profile, no question asked, unlike 1.5.0.11 which requests to set up its own profile. 2.0.0.3a
asks me if i want to keep or make "firefox" my default (it was my default).
That would not be the worst feature, but proxy server refuses connection to any sites. I compared settings, and 2.0.0.3a has a check mark with "use privacy" of "use recommended proxy settings ". Changing to "Custom proxy" like v.1.5.0.0.11 it has "socks host , port 9050, as well as HTTP and SSL proxy of: localhost, port 8118. There is no setting for HTTP and SSL in 1.5.0.11.
I changed the settings to be the same in the two version, and, still I am being kept out. It may be because it conflicts with the Firewall. 1.5.0.11 asks me to allow it, but 2.0.0.3a goes on as if it is Firefox.
1.5.0.10 is usable, but extremely slow, while I can't find any way to use 2.0.0.3a
It may work if it was the only "Firefox ".
I have also become acquainted with No Script amd Adblock, and I am sure that they are a source of delay. I will still be checking 1.5.0.11 (which lists as Torpark1.5.0.7), but, I see no point of continuing with 2.0.0.3a.
After all this, I saw a link in a Search which would have saved me a lot of time and aggravation. It tells everything I said and experienced. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torpark

    Scout,

This little program would be good to use for online Banking, and other sites where you wanted excellent security. Otherwise sounds as if it might be a little slow for regular use. Those of us used to the speed of Firefox would probably have the bejeebers using Torpark as the default browser.

I did download the program and may use it for those times when I feel that ultimate security is necessary. That would be few and far between! :)

Thanks very much for bringing the browser to our attention, as it is a good find!
