What do these messages mean

    Hello:
    in loading software for a scanner from a CD onto a Win 98 laptop, it tells me to restart, when i do i get this message

    1 "Can not find CD SETUP.EXE or any of its components "
    i click on it and get message
    2 can not load or run CD SETUP.EXE in WIN.INI file
    What do these messages mean, how fix??

    Your BIOS boot sequence is probably set to boot off the cd....Either need to change that or pop the cd out of the cd drive.

    The CD was out. it told me to eject it before restarting

    Your laptop is running Windows 98 your Scanner CD software might not be compatible with Win 98 anymore. Meaning Windows can not read the CD.
    Only a guess.

    Looks like you'll have to boot off a Win98 floppy disk....Locate and edit the Win.ini and remove the reference to setup.exe .

    To hawk:
    The software came with the scanner, which was made for 95/98SE
    To Steve : it boots up after i click OK on messages
    i will try to locate win.ini file, but i wonder if laptop just has something missing.
    I heard/read that they have a condensed version of program

    Run Msconfig and check if there is a startup for SETUP.EXE there.
    You'll find Win.Ini located in the Windows folder, you need to check these two lines;

    load=
    run=

    Typically these should be like I have here, nothing to the right of the equals sign.

    there are 2 load
    1 has E\CDSETUP.EXE
    2ND ONE c\oplimit\ocraware.exe
    which should i uncheck??
    There is NO run

    The first one, (1 has E\CDSETUP.EXE).

    Thanks i figgered that, but wanted to be sure.
    What about the fact there is no RUN??

    Items in msconfig automatically load or run....

    Items in the win.ini file need the command.

    The "run=" doesn't need to be there, it is not doing anything anyway.

    i unchecked it, that solved the problem

    ** i did NOT get an e~mail that Markp62 replied yesterday, nor Steve R Jones reply yesterday. i came here to see if any replies
