A friend of mine is getting annoyed from someone using a gmail email address.
Is there any way to tell what city this email is coming from?
    It is beyond me.

    Thanks,

Sent direct to Gmail server, you'll have to contact them to determine the culprit.

    Whois record for 209.85.212.198

There may have been other servers before it reached there but if there were (AFAIR) they broke RFC's for SMTP. the 10.x.x.x Address is private and can't be determined net side.

The "culprit" really has done nothing illegal, we were just trying to find out what city it was coming from then we would have a good guess as to who it is.
Will gmail / google tell me this info?

I doubt it, if it's not illegal the best they'll offer is advice on how to block future emails.

    No Problem,

Sorry I couldn't help. It may still be worth asking google though. US laws are different from UK(/Scottish) laws and they may be obliged to give you the information.

Either way I can state that google is your next port of call, so you may perhaps consider marking this thread as solved.
