I've noticed recently a few files called, "Thumbs" in varioius folders on my PC. Windows Explorer, in the Type column, says that they are a database file. The most recent one I've come across was created at 2:38, and I see I created a GIF file at 2:37 in the same sub-folder. What is going on? Can I safely delete the "Thumbs" files?

When you set the folder view in Windows Explorer to show thumbnails a database of those thumbnails is created to speed up viewing the next time the folder is opened.

You can delete them safely, but the better method - which prevents thumbs.db being created in the first place is ....

Tools > Folder Options > View - under Files & Folders check 'Do not cache thumbnails'.
