Welshjim's HJT log

I am a little concerned about a file called symlcsv1.exe. It claims to be a Symantec Core Component, but it appears only in Temp folders. Several Google references seem to think it is part of a trojan, but no conclusions reached. I scanned with NAV, AdAware, Windowsecurity Trojan scanner and nothing was found. So here is my HJT log.

Thanks for any comments. (I have no clue what the R1 entry is all about. Never been to www.dell4me.com/myway until I saw it now. Also webzone.dll is a mystery.)

I would use the on line virus scanners to get 2nd opinions, at this point NAV is suspect.

Use the KAV scanner as well - they have the largest DB as far a I know http://www.kaspersky.com/

Ewido AT as well http://rstones12.geekstogo.com/ewidosetup.htm

What NAV version are you using? FWIW, I'm using NAV2005 and symlcsv1.exe isn't on my system as far as I can tell.

Yesterday, just before I shutdown my PC, I deleted the two instances of symlcsv1.exe (found by Agent Ransack) on my PC. Today, when I rebooted, I thought there were no symlcsv1.exe files. (But Agent Ransack had not done a proper job. In fact there was a symlcsv1.exe in Local Settings/Temp (see the end of this post)). However, when I downloaded and installed the latest virus definitions from Norton/Symantec, I found no additional instances of symlcsv1.exe on the PC.
Symantec Support (email version) had no clue about symlcsv1.exe.

I scanned with www.Kaspersky.com. Results were "No Results ", which is good! (That is one long scan--over one hour.)
In my first post above, I neglected to mention that I had also submitted symlcsv1.exe to jotti.com and Kaspersky's similar scan of individual files. ( www.kaspersky.com/remoteviruschk.html ) Nothing negative found.
So I am still a little uncertain about symlcsv1.exe and hope someone will look at my HJT log.
My NAV version is NAV 2005 from NSW 2005 Premier.
P.S. Any ideas about webzone.dll?
P.P.S. Now about Agent Ransack. It seems to have the ability to reenter the name of a file from an earlier search from the DropDown arrow into the File Name line. But that really does not work. You have to retype in the file name to get an accurate, uptodate Search. At least that is my experience today.

 

Jim, I have webzone.dll on my computer as shown below in an exerpt from my HJT log. If I remember correctly it is a utility that lets you add a web address to trusted or restricted zones with a right click. Haven't used it recently so have forgotten exactly how to use. As far as I know it is legitimate. Have had it for over a year and has created no problems.

Edit: Just remembered how it works. It puts two entries in the Tools dropdown menu on the menu bar. When you have a web page open you want to add to trusted or restricted zones you click on Tools>Add to Trusted Zone or Add to Restricted Zone while that page is open in your browser and its added. Just a quick way of doing that chore.

I do have that Tweak installed. It comes from http://download.microsoft.com/download/ie5/Utility/1/W9XNT4MeXP/EN-US/pwrtwks.exe
Although supposedly for IE5, they work fine in IE6.

 

Thanks guys for pointing me to the pwrtwks download. I’ve been looking for something like this for years to make it easier to add sites to the Trusted Zone.
