One of my computers have windows me os. I ran into problems recently and had to use the restore disc. After windows was restored I received the prompt to log on to windows. It stated that if a user name and password weren't entered the prompt wouldn't come back so I didn't. I just cancelled it. However it comes on every time that I boot the computer up. It's annoying because it won't boot any further until I cancel it. Does anyone know how I can get rid of it? Thanks.

    Hi Patty
    Welcome to the boards!
Right click on Network Neighbourhood and select properties.
Find the drop down menu titled "Primary Network Logon ". Change the drop down menu to read "windows logon "

    Now ok the "network" window.
The computer should ask for a restart.
If the computer displays the password box during start up ..
    click "ok" without entering anything.

    See if that works.

Thank you for your suggestion but I went to network places and followed the rest of the directions but it didn't solve the problem. The prompt continues to appear every time that I boot the computer up. There is no network neighborhood so I'm assuming that network places is the same. Is there any other way to get rid of that annoying welcome to windows login prompt?

Click on Start; Find (or Search); Files or Folders.

In 'Search for files or folders named' (or Named) box: type in '*.pwl', without the quotation marks.

In the 'Look In' box use the drop-down arrow to ensure [C:] is selected.

Place a check mark by Include subfolders.

Click on "Find (or Search) Now'.

Right-click delete all the PWL files found.

Close the Find/Search utility and restart the computer via the Start button.

When you see the Windows Logon Prompt again, type in a name but do not type in a password and click on 'OK'.
