    Greetings everyone :)

DoctorDoom, why would we have to contact management to post in this forum again if one changes their hardware or reloads their computer???

Doctor Doom, Product activation is funny?
You must have a better sense of humor than me. :)

    "Feature" ?????????????

    Hi Doc!

Re: "Feature ", well, I've got a full version of XP Pro, MIB. It'll probably stay that way, right in the box, right on the shelf, until it just freezes on over...

    :p

My power supply took out everything on my IDE chain (including all my secondary hdd business backups, etc.) a couple of years ago. I rebuilt two boxes and networked them so I could do a full backup from my workhorse to the backup system. Now, if I install XP, how am I gonna do that? Just doesn't make sense to me to be penalized 100% simply because I'm so gunshy about going through hell rebuilding my system again...

Incidentally, I haven't heard too many positive things about WXP in general yet (except from M$ marketing). Might be worth the wait to see how all the dust settles anyway!

SOOOOOOOOOOO glad to see you back on the Board, though (and that I won't have to contact management to post here again if I alter my system)!

    :D

    edit:
Darned keyboard just doesn't seem to be able to spell very well today

Guys, the product activation isn't that bad. Unless you change serious components you're fine. Changing a Nic, video card or the like won't make you have to reactivate. Adding a hard drive won't either. It's only when you change system boards, or put in a completely new primary hard drive (the drive the O.S resides upon). And this feature can be disabled.

after installing windows XP, i spent 4 days making sure everything was compatible. Activasion took 5 seconds over the internet, and was completely harmless. Supposedly changing like a few pieces of hardware wil not un-activate windows. I have yet to see the "terrible activation process" people always talked about.

    awesome work on the forums!!!

I was thinking you could activate 5 times without calling MS.
I have done 2 clean installs on the same machine with diffrent mother board with no problems.
I have heard the is a file you can copy after the activation and save it to a disk, then you can do as many clean installs as you like.
