there is a folder on my c:\ drive which I did not install. It's name is:
    $$DeleteMe.$$DeleteMe.$$DeleteMe.$$DeleteMe.$$DeleteMe.$$DeleteMe.$$DeleteMe..01c7fe5c58b0c1f5.0000.01c7fe7eb08a9d5f.0000.01c7fef317e1f69f.0000.01c7ff34212553f4.0000.01c7ffba1295077c.0000.01c7ffdc0f22e363.0000.01c80003f0cc1b21.0000

The folder is empty and tagged as hidden.

Is this a virus or some malware, or is it something that belongs to Vista?

Obviously I have not deleted it. Can anyone shed some light on this?

    Cheers Axel

It's probably a system folder....When in doubt ->SCAN for viruses or malware.

Really?!! Haven't seen it in home premiun (one 32bit and one 64 bit). I always un-hide all files and folders on my computers, and turn on automatic updates. Personally, sounds like it doesn't belong; would at least look for and explabation, and delete it - at least to the recycle bin.

I have run it by AVG and malware busters but got no response. So I decided to leave it alone.
Thanks guys, I appreciate your help.

    Hello axel,
Don't leave it alone - get rid of it and see if it appears again. Maybe you can spot what creates it.

Like sparrow, doesn't exist on my system either. So if it is a "system" folder, it gets created under certain conditions.

axel, are you running OneCare or any other Ms application?

I certainly didn't mean to imply that 'common' meant every Vista system has a folder like that. I suspect it was created and left over by a software installation or an update. Axel, check the properties on the folder for it's creation date and time, then see if you can tie that to anything. Possibly a search for files created on that date, a restore point made at that time, etc.
    SP1 maybe??
