websites open when I open an email

I receive a ton of junk email. I have set up message rules, blocked senders etc but as you know, these sick people always seem to find a way to get through. Some of these emails though automatically go to a website the minute you click on them so I can't even select them to delete them without that website opening up. There is nothing in the email that indicates there is an attachment. Is there a way to select these messages without actually clicking on them or is there a setting within Express that I should have that would allow me to click on them without the web page opening up.

 

You need to disable the Preview Pane. In OE 6, that's done through View>Layout, uncheck Show Preview Pane, click OK.

Now all you'll see are the headers, which you can click on once to select to delete or twice to open to read.

 

Thanx! - that does work but I get about 50 legitimate emails a day that I would really like to be able to see automatically without having to double click them. Is that the only way to stop this? It is a relatively new problem - I think in just the last 4 months or so - are these spammers getting smarter?

Read all about it. It is a nice program for dealing with Spam. Works with Outlook Express, & some online e-mail clients.

 

You can add a button for the preview pane to the toolbar in OE. Right click someplace on the toolbar and choose customize. Once you've got it there it's just the click of a button to open or close the preview pane.

2. If you are running the ZoneAlarm firewall, click on the LOCK and then read the messages.

 

Something to try.
In Express, go to Tools\Options, click on Security, then change to Restricted Sites zone.
