I am trying to reinstall a webcam (Sceptre "“ SV300B2 USB PC Camera). The first time installation was plug and play and there were no problems.

I uninstalled and then when I tried to reinstall the driver using the floppy provided it was giving me a file error "“ saying a file was missing.

I downloaded a driver from the website and tried again going through Add Hardware "“ the error message I get is as follows:

“An error occurred during the installation of the device.
The name is already in use as either a service name or a service display name.â€

This is the same message I get if I simply plug it in and the system autodetects the new hardware.

The only option is to then click finish and there is no camera installed.

I ran the cam uninstall program and rebooted. I have also gone in through the control panel/hardware manager and the camera (which was listed as 'USB Device') is no longer listed.

Can anyone suggest what I need to do or am doing incorrectly?
Please also let me know if there is another place I should be looking for answers for something like this.
    Thanks.

Assuming some version of Win9.x, try starting in safe mode then remove any listings for the camera from Device Manager.
