I have an older laptop with windows 95 and internet explorer 5.5. I have noticed that when i go into most web pages i see text and some grahics but not most of it and none that scrolls.I also get a scripting error sometimes that says " class is not registered ". I am not sure if it is having a problem with javascript or what. all my setting are set to display images, i have downloaded a flash player. Nothing seems to make a difference. My windows 95 pc displays everything fine. What am I missing on that laptop??

That page is a help with another problem I have on the PC I am on now. It has had those red X boxes and I have just never bothered to get rid of them, so thanks. Unforntunately, the problem with the laptop is a little different. Through further investigation I have found that it is javascript that is not appearing correctly. I either get a scripting error ( for example one page has a graphic in the middle of the page that changes every few seconds. I see the first picture, but as soon as it is suppose to cchange, I get a scripting error) or parts of the screen just don't appear as they should, pictures could be missing, banners, anything javascript related. i really need to be able to open this one page from the laptop for a presention, but the icon I am to click on does not display. Very aggrevating. I have put patches on, upgraded everything I could think of, still not working. Any other suggestions ( i have already done oneknowledge base article 308260)

How to Troubleshoot Script Errors in Internet Explorer
So you did all the troubleshooting steps and you are still getting scripting errors? Bummer.

Can you gave us a link to the page or pages that are giving you errors? It might also help if you gave the specific error.

    Hi Jim,

I also thought most script errors had to do with a combination of coding errors on the page and having checked the Advanced option to "Display a notification about every script error" when it should NOT be checked. I guess not:

Alice--Thanks for the second link, as well. Sounds like a Repair IE might fix the problem in the "Class not registered" case.

I am Still working on it. Have done everything I can think of short of reinstalling Windows 95. I have loaded every patch I can think of, upgraded directX, scripting, reloaded IE5.5, loaded every flash player or the like, I could find. Had to put it away for a few days, it was getting on my nerves. I think my next step will be to reload windows, just in case there is a corrupt file somewhere. If that does not work, it sprouts wings and is going through a window.

I'm with you. Every once in a while, Windows needs a good swift kick in the pants. Installing over itself may just do the trick. Do keep us posted as you go? Thanks for the update.

If you do reinstall Windows 95 I would be very careful if you have Win95B or C and have the USB Supplement installed. It will show up in Add/Remove Programs as USB Supplement to OSR2. You need to UNinstall the USB Supplement beforehand. You may need to Uninstall IE5 as well, then manually uninstall IE4 if it was not the original IE version (IE3.02 came with my Win95B) unless there is a way to reinstall Windows 95 without installing IE (setup switch?).

Have you thought of trying another browser? Mabe Netscape or Mozilla? ;)
