WD Elements Not Showing Full Size

    Hi there guys just picket up a WD Elements 2½" Portable 160 gig USB2 Hard Drive but when I plug it in the PC installs the drive ok but in Disk Management it shows as Basic FAT - 149 GIG do I have to make a partition for the rest to show up??

    I think you are overlooking the fact that the file system takes up a fair bit of room plus the fact that most manufacturers use 1000Mb = 1 Gb rather than the correct value of 1024Mb. Thus your 160Gb drive is actually 156.25Gb.

    I checked my 250Gb WD 2½" external which I cased myself - that shows 232.88Gb - 93% of the stated capacity. The percentage on your drive is the same.

    I don't think you have a problem :)

    It's kind of like ordering a 12oz Filet - by the time it's cooked and served, one is lucky to have 8oz.

    Hey - the guy said his drive seems smaller than he thought - not that it was fried :D
