    Hello!,

I have had a good removable disk for all of my editing work for over 2 years now. It is WD Elements 500GB, but now I finally upgraded my hard drive and it was working fine for three weeks! Then suddently when I plug it in it just fails to open it. What I mean by this is when I plug it into USB 2.0 it just shows the autoplay and gives me "Open with" - "Choose the program you want to open this file " - "(E: ) ".

It just gives me notepad, microsoft MS and so on.

I really dont know how to fix this! I am currently using windows XP 32 BIT!

Can it be because of some virus that has destroyed my registry stuff or something?

I really need my work from the hard drive and its vital for my editor work! I have my master's thesis there.

    With love,

    Mike

Try repairing the autoplay settings. Use THIS.

Alright, action taken and nothing repaired. Thing is, the device 500GB is working on my laptop it seems. The problem now is within _THIS_ very computer.

It is seeing a directory/drive as a file
not that I have come across the problem before :(

Does Western Digital have some sort of program that runs/manages the drive? I would look at that area if it was possible. Check if WD has a program that may have been installed with the drive. Look up the drive at their website and check the FAQs or knowledgebase.

Look in Add or Remove Programs for a WD listing, uninstall it, I would leave it up to you whether you reinstall it.

I've faced yet another problem. It seems that is not the only problem. I cannot even install Battlefield 2.., strange. Any suggestions what I should do?

Alright. Problem solved according to removable disks. Not for battlefield. As I suspected, registry info was broken due to an trojan on my computer which was deleted. So, I deleted autoplay using notepad and just plugged the removable disk in and voilá, it worked. Thanks for your assistance and effort you did!

Thanks for letting us know. I will mark this thread resolved, because the subject is solved. Open another thread for the game problem because it appears unrelated.

Always first point to check with games is that your computer (more than) meets the specifications. Check the FAQs at the game's website.
