When using Windows Explorer, I see on the navigation pane on the left, many shortcuts right under the Username. It is a distraction for my eyes, and I never go to any files using those shortcuts. Is there a way to disable the viewing of these shortcuts? I have tried Classic Shell for Windows, but no matter what option I'm checking, I still see them.

I have linked to a screenshot to illustrate what I'm talking about:

Thanks, Evan. If I have read that link correctly, it tells you how to turn the Navigation pane on or off. What I'm looking for is simply a way to remove a lot of clutter from the Navigation pane, those shortcuts that I had circled in the screenshot that I took--but I still like that navigation pane.

Paul. Click on your name under the users menu (directly under Homegroup in the navigation pane on the left) so that all the subfolders (.rssowl2, AppData etc.) appear in the main pane. You should then be able to delete them like any other file.

Open Windows Explorer then click on the small diagonally-pointing arrow just to the left of "Libraries" to collapse the folder.

Close Windows Explorer. Next time you open Windows Explorer, that folder will be displayed collapsed.

In other words, however you have the folders in the left-hand pane displayed when you close WE, that's how they will be displayed the next time you open WE.

I do occasionally dip into my User account to get info on a browser profile. I'll just have to remember to click that account name on the left pane when I do that.

I'm not sure I'd want to delete all those folders... some of them look important--I suppose I could delete the faux XP shortcuts if I needed to, but I'll try Miz' solution first.

To whom it may concern--I'd like to try this out for a few days before marking this thread as solved, just to see if this is something that's convenient for me.

Sorry Paul - I'd misread your question.

However, deleting a shortcut does exactly that - just deletes the shortcut. It does nothing to the files/folders themselves.

You can create a New shortcut to Explorer and use these settings:

    Explorer.exe /e, /select, C:\

Steve, thanks for the input, but your shortcut opens up Explorer with all the drives in the right pane (even after changing that last letter to D). I was using

    %windir%\explorer.exe /n,/e, d:\

and it opens up explorer with my D partition's contents (my documents) revealed in the right pane (which is what I prefer).

Unfortunately, several times I've still noticed those additional links visible on the left pane. I believe when I dig into my D partition, that Windows views it as part of my user account, and then expands those links under my username. I have not been going into my user "profile" per se, so that must be it.

Its an annoyance for me because I've been using an Explorer substitute for a while, and then I just decided to go back to Windows Explorer for a bit, and the substitute (Explorer++) didn't have all that clutter in the left pane. I think I'll go back to explorer substitutes:(
