I installed DVDMate and had the following problems:

1- The install didn't allow me to reboot later. The reboot button was checked and couldn't be unchecked.

2- DVDMate's drivers took over my drives. No other programs recognized the drives.

3- The uninstall didn't allow me not to reboot. I was able to close the window through task manager, but really...

4- DVDMate uninstall took out all my DVD and CD drivers, not just its own.

I never did try the program, so I don't know how it works, but if the same thought went into the program as into the install...

    Well, you figure it out.

    Ouch!!!

Wonder if it's an OS version issue of some sort?

It was the latest shareware version, 2.6.3.1, downloaded from the company's own website:

    http://ftp.copystar.com.tw/~copystar/dvdmate/DVDMate.exe

Supposed to be good for all versions of Windows.

Not such an "ouch" as I think you mean...

I was talking about the software drivers in the registry. Still bad, but I think you were thinking of the device drivers. My fault for being ambiguous.

Thankfully, the drivers were all installed in the "filters" section of the registry and the programs that used the drivers were able to reinstall them, but it still required an extra reboot after the fix, and reflects the programming in general, to my mind.

More evidence on the necessity of having a disk imagining program. When I or the program starts to make my computer run goofy, I just restore an image! Right now!
