I have always been using the free software on the internet, eg the defraggles, ccleaner, etc, but when my desktop broke, the guy said that there were thousands of remnants on the PC.

Are there any good programmes on the market that the professionals use?

Sounds like it's time for a clean install with format :) I have no faith in the so called 'optimisers' and place them in the same category as 'registry cleaners'.

I don't use any 3rd party 'optimizers'. Most of them fall into the category "Snake Oil ".

Hi avz10. I totally agree with what Arie and Pete have already stated. Don't waste your money. There are many other ways of increasing your computers performance without having to resort to so called computer optimizers and registry cleaners that claim they can speed up your computer.

Besides, most of the system optimizers claim that they can tweak hidden settings in your system when in reality most of those tweaks and optimizations you can do yourself. Stay away from these types of programs since they are most likely trying to steal your money and in some cases they can even damage your computer.

I see probably about 5 - 10 computers come into work a month with problems because they have installed regcure, winoptimiser or ccleaner.

    These programs are a con.

The only freeware tool I sometimes use is by Auslogics and is called Registry Defrag.

I find that with some computers that are old and have not had windows reloaded in years it works wonders and makes the machine a lot more snappy.

Also keeping your hard disk defragmented works wonders.

The ways I improve performance are removing programs that you don't need, defragmenting your computer using Auslogics Disk Defrag, running disk cleanup, and disabling unused windows services.

Thanks for that- our software is in Cape Town and sending the PC down, is quite a hassle. They do not want to send me Windows!

Will keep your answers in mind!
