When I'm browsing files through Windows Explorer I have my default view set to "details" rather than "list ", "thumbnails ", etc. I'd really like to have the same default view on all my dialog boxes, eg when I'm opening a file, saving a file, etc etc. Can this be achieved?

MsCynic--Open a page in Windows Explorer. When it displays the way you want it to, click Tools|Options|View tab|click "Apply to all Folders ".

i'm fairly sure that there's no way to do this in win out of the box. u MAY find some reghack - i haven't - and there are some code examples of how to do this on nt/2k on google. or look for a tweaker that can do this.

link to code example from google:

    Details view in dialogs

Thanks - I'll look for a hacker - do you think Tweaking Toolbox could do it?

Not as far as I can see - unless Arie (Board Admin & author of Tweaking Toolbox) knows better :)
