I have a friend who is using Wal Mart as an ISP and I would like to set up OE for her if it is possible. Does anyone know if this can be done and what it takes to do it? She is using an old, slow HP computer and is running W2000 on it.

garybeafl--I assume that WalMart can use OutlookExpress, which program is probably already installed on the PC, and is not tied to a proprietary mail system (like AOL is).
Therefore here are the generic instructions
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/using/howto/oe/setup.mspx
    http://www.webzervice.com/manual/Tutorials/outlook.htm
The only catch is that you may need some info to fill in the POP and SMTP address boxes. You may have to call WalMart for this, or perhaps, the installation CD from WalMart will have a section on setting up the email. You could then use that info instead of the links above.

    Should be straightforward enough .....

In OE > Tools > Accounts > Add > Mail and follow the wizard through - if there is no account set up the wizard will probably start up immediately OE is opened.

You will need 3 pieces of info - the dial up no. and the incoming/outgoing mail server addresses plus username and password. This info should be on the Wal Mart site if you don't have it already.

I would have thought that the install CD would set up an account in OE anyway?

I have not seen her machine since she set up Wal Mart as the ISP. She called my wife and said she was having trouble sending or receiving e-mail and wanted me to come over and help her with it so I thought I would set up OE to send and receive since I am familiar with it.

Thanks so much for the replys. I'll report back with the results after I look at her computer.

Maybe you figured this out already. I looked all over for info on this & it was difficult to find, if it's even accurate. See if the following helps your friend:
