I have Windows XP on my computer. When I click Start/Search I get a little wagging dog in that box. How do I get rid of that dog? Thank you.

In the search box, type in "City Pound" (without the quotes of course). If that doesn't work try "Humane Society" (with quotes) . Another possibility: under F1, look under *DOG Removal* or *Wagging Dog Extermination*. Hope this is helpful.

P.S. strongly suggest you do NOT feed it or it will never leave.

Any problems finding the answer from google, let me know and I can be more specific.

I am including this windowsbbs archived post just for the added links to either tweakui or better xp search replacement "agent ransack ".

Tweakui can take some of the pain out of doing this; if you'd like to switch to "classic search" in both IE and explorer, note the reference to the options being located in the explorer section of tweakui.

But best of all is the link and suggestion to try out a better search tool called "AgentRansack ". Much faster and more dependable than xp's default.

If interested see links provided in the following post:

    Hi, 427.
In my Windows XP "Search Results" window, if I click on the wagging dog (before any search is performed), I am presented with the option to "Turn off the animated character ". I have the TweakUI PowerToy installed so this may be a TweakUI feature.

Alternatively, I can click the "Change preferences" menu item on the left side of the "Search Results" window and I am presented with the question: "How do you want to use Search Companion? "

The first item under that question is "Without an animated screen character ".

Again, if you don't have those options, I suspect they're features of TweakUI. :)

LOL! You forgot the "Shoot the dog and bury it in its own hole." option. ;)

EDIT: I clicked on goddez1's Google link and discovered the option to disable/enable the wagging dog appears to be a default Windows XP feature. Therefore, TweakUI is not needed. Thanks, Ann! :)

427, we would be remiss if we did not advise you to get AgentRansack and turn your back on the MS search applet. About all of the old hands here use it and rave about it. Twice as fast, better features, and no animal dependents.

In addition to the MS dog, I always hated the way it defaulted to searching every drive it detected. Then I could never trust if it was searching all the hidden files since the setting didn't stick for that either. Just a real dog all the way around. :)
